A workshop on Subcutaneous Endoscopic Surgery and Robotics was held at Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai on the 5th and 6th of July 2014. The workshop was organized under the aegis of PESI and Apollo Children’s hospital, Chennai.
Dr. Ashwin Pimpalwar from Houston, Texas was the operating faculty. He performed 5 procedures in all. One case each of torticollis and forearm swelling was operated on 5th July. On 6th July he operated on 2 patients with torticollis and one patient with chest wall swelling. Dr.Vikesh Agarwal from Jabalpur also presented his experience of 14 cases of subcutaneous endoscopic surgery for a variety of lesions.
All the patients were discharged after 1 day and are doing well on follow up (Pictures attached). The Chest wall swelling patient had pus for which a drain was put and pulled out on the 4th day. The pus did not grow any organisms or show any Fungal or AFB organism and the biopsy was reported as subacute fibro inflammatory tissue, consistent with wall of an abscess. The biopsy of the hand swelling showed Chronic fibro inflammatory lesion with eosinophillia.
Dr. Ashwin Pimpalwar, Dr Rajkumar Palaniappan and Dr. V Sripathi conducted a CME on Robotic surgery showing the newer developments in the field of robotics and its clinical application. We are sure it will stimulate younger Paediatric Surgeons to explore this exciting field.
72 delegates attended the workshop from all over India, which we think is the first workshop of it’s kind in India. We hope you enjoyed the workshop and Apollo hospitality.
We distributed the participation certificate with 10 CME credit point by The Tamilnadu MGR university, an edited CD of the procedure and a group photograph of most of the delegates who attended the meet.
We thank you again for making all efforts to travel across the contry and making this workshop a great success.
